UNNAMED OBJECT

Ode to the object‘s versatility—a study for sustainability @ VICIS 2018

The furniture of Anja Sopic are placed somewhere between the fields of art and design, communicating and visualizing the design process. The design process for SPIDER was primarily marked out by the development of a formal vocabulary, that would allow a user to engage in the object‘s history and be challenged by its renegotiated form and functions: a swivel chair that has been transformed into a lamp—seating vs. lighting. Furthermore, the 360 degrees mechanism allows this lamp to facilitate the idea of an object that is flexible in size and appearance, and at the same time corresponds with the user‘s desire for participation and engagement. The key aspect of this object is defined by a multi-level celebration of versatility.
