CEREAL MACHINE

TOTAL CONTROL BY FUTURE KITCHEN TOOLS @ VICIS 2018

Before we will completely stop to cook and the future kitchen tools lose its practical role, they still retain the practical value, forecast Takuya Koyama and Chen Hsiang Fu, students at Berlin University of the Arts UDK. However, the sense of practicality will be altered. We will—according to both—slightly give up on cooking and in the end the kitchen tools will feed us. This trend can be seen from the recent development of kitchen tools.

CEREAL MACHINE is a practical proposal for the future kitchen tool. A serial dispenser which corresponds to the user’s biometric data and provides proper nutritions. The machine collects the blood sugar level of the user and provides mixed cereal based on the data. (Blood sugar level sensor will be introduced in the near future into smart watch).

Using this machine means that you will even give up to choose what you eat. Through this work, they show how future technology are going to affect food culture. At the same time, they ask for the ethical challenges we are going to face.

The main research fields of Takuya Koyama are Product design and Interaction design. The ones of Chen Hsiang Fu are architecture and media art. In their collaborative projects—dealing with the question of future technology and its potential impact—they show their common perspective through arts. In order to bring their thinking to society, they put down their idea with product design.
