WORKS AS DESIGNED @ VICIS 2018Good design is user centered and always seeks to deliver innovative solutions to solve topical issues of our time. There was no way around this design mantra, when the architect Katerina Kamprani started to study design in her native Greece at the dawn of the economic crisis. According to this tenets, design thinking aims to optimize user experience in order to help humans to interact with products and systems intuitively. But in times of existential threat by dint of a dysfunctional economy it seemed far more important to her to focus the mind on fundamental questions.
What happened next was The Uncomfortable—a collection of deliberately inconvenient everyday objects. Her humorous approach uses common design methodologies of optimizing handling and usability of objects and challenges the expectations of functionality. The project analyses user habits on the basis of proven forms and models and aims for an appreciation for the conventional through faulty design.
